Privacy Policy
Effective October 23, 2026
Short version: As-of-Right doesn’t collect your personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. What you save stays on your device. To look things up, your device talks directly to New York City’s public data services.
Who we are
As-of-Right is an app and website for researching New York City development sites. It is published by Chris Karalis. Questions about this policy: chris@apexdevelopmentny.com.
What we collect
Nothing. We don’t run a server that receives your searches, and we don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind. We don’t sell or share data, because we don’t have any.
What stays on your device
Your settings, recent searches, saved site lists, watched sites, notes, and the name and contact details you enter for owner letters are stored only on your device (in the app’s storage, or in your browser on the website). Deleting the app, or clearing the website’s data in your browser, removes them.
Services your device contacts
To show a site, As-of-Right asks public data services for the information you request, such as an address, or a borough, block and lot. These requests go straight from your device to the service, which receives your IP address and the request, as with any website, under its own privacy policy:
- NYC Department of City Planning: MapPLUTO lot data (hosted on Esri ArcGIS Online), NYC GeoSearch address lookup, the Zoning Resolution and the Zoning Application Portal
- NYC Open Data (data.cityofnewyork.us): ACRIS property records, Department of Buildings, HPD, Department of Finance and other City datasets
- Esri ArcGIS Online: map imagery
- On the website only: Google Fonts, and cdnjs and jsDelivr for code libraries
Links you tap to City and State websites (ACRIS, DOB, HPD and others) open those sites, which have their own policies.
Location
If you tap “Near me”, the app asks for your permission to use your location once. Your device uses it to find the closest tax lot by asking the City’s MapPLUTO service for lots at that spot. We never receive or store your location, and the app doesn’t track it in the background.
Notifications and background checks
In the iPhone app, if you watch a site and allow notifications, your phone checks City records for that site from time to time and notifies you when something changes. The checks run on your phone, querying NYC Open Data with the site’s block and lot numbers. Nothing is sent to us.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the founder lifetime purchase are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple tells the app on your device whether you have an active purchase. Apple’s privacy policy covers your Apple Account and payments.
Children
As-of-Right is a professional tool and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its effective date. If we ever start collecting data, we’ll say so here before we do and update the App Store privacy details.
